How to Find a Skating Lesson
|
Skating lessons are not expensive and they will help you learn
quickly and get through your first few skating sessions without an injury.
Where to Look for Skating Lessons
Look in our
International Skating Lessons Directory
Look on the International Inline Skating Association's Web site
for
certified instructors in your area.
Look in your local phone book under skating, skates, rollerskating,
inline skating, hockey, roller hockey, and inline hockey.
Ask at one of your local
skate shops or any store that sells inline skates.
Skate retailers will usually have cards and fliers from local instructors.
Ask at your local
roller skating rinks. This is the best place
to find instructors for artistic skating, roller hockey, and indoor speedskating.
Ask at one of your local
skate park. This is the best place to find aggressive skating lessons.
Contact your local college extension programs, parks and recreation
departments, YMCAs, night schools, and other organizations that have
recreational programs in your area.
Skating Lesson Tips
A group skating lesson will typically cost $15 to $20 and a
private lesson will typically cost $40 to $60. A private lesson
given by the owner of a skating school or by a world champion or celebrity skater
could cost quite a bit more.
Some instructors will let you share a private lesson with a
friend, and reduce the per-person cost by up to 50%.
Ask the instructor if rental of skates, helmet, and protective
gear is included in the price.
INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED SKATERS: When you are trying to learn a
particular skill (cross-overs, T-stop, double-push, etc) try
taking a private lesson that is focused ONLY on that skill.
